ARF Special Lecture, Margaret Conkey

Marginal Practices: A Feminist Archaeology from Outside the Cave

Speaker: Margaret Conkey, Professor emerita, Anthropology, UC Berkeley

Thursday October 27, 2011

 5 - 7 PM, Room 101, 2251 College (Archaeological Research Facility)

In this talk, I will try to follow in the footsteps of my colleagues who have also recently retired from teaching in giving a little bit of a retrospective on how I got into archaeology, and some of the projects I have been involved in. I will frame some of this in terms of how one does some things that are considered "marginal" and just what is to be gained from an explicitly marginal stance. In particular, I will try to develop some threads of feminist practice that have influenced my work and my most recent major project, "Between the Caves" (landscape archaeology of the French Midi-Pyrénées).
