This intensive seminar will consider topical approaches in contemporary social theory that have become foundations for archaeological anthropology in the 21st century. Theoretical works to be covered include, but are not limited to, practice theories; concepts of materiality; theories of place, space, and dwelling; and production of meaning, belief, and identification. This course is designed for beginning graduate students, but advanced undergraduates (senior standing) may be admitted, with permission of the instructor. Requirements: Two hours of seminar per week. Grading will be based on seminar attendance, participation, and short writing assignments responding to readings over the course of the semester.
